# Licence

> Open ADMS is open source under the Apache License 2.0, and what that means for a firm that installs it, changes it or builds on it.

Open ADMS is open source under the **Apache License, Version 2.0**. The licence text is the
repository's [LICENSE](https://github.com/MrRyanAlexander/openadms/blob/main/LICENSE) file, and its
[NOTICE](https://github.com/MrRyanAlexander/openadms/blob/main/NOTICE) file carries the copyright
notice.

## What it means

In plain words (the licence itself is what binds):

- **A firm may install and run it** for any purpose, including commercially, on its own servers or
  its own cloud.
- **You may change it**, and distribute your changed version, under the licence's conditions: keep
the licence and the NOTICE file, and say which files you changed.
- **It includes a patent licence** from each contributor for their contributions.
- **It comes with no warranty.**
- The licence gives no right to use the project's name or marks to suggest endorsement. A firm
shows its own name for its ADMS, set at install, beside the Open ADMS release it is built on.

## Dependencies

Every dependency Open ADMS ships is under a licence compatible with Apache-2.0 for what ships
(permissive licences, and MPL-2.0 used unmodified). Strong and network copyleft (GPL, LGPL, AGPL),
source-available and non-commercial licences are refused; a few build-time tools that never ship
are decided one by one, by exact version. `pnpm licences` checks every installed package.

## Contributions

Contributions are accepted under the same licence: see [Contributing](/docs/contributing.md).
